The Life of A Spanish Vintner
August 20, 2009 @ 3:33 pm
After being in La Costa Brava, I headed to Zahara de los Atunes, a small town in Cadiz in the south of Spain overlooking the Atlantic. All the houses in this part of Spain are whitewashed, creating the effect that the towns are white, so we call them pueblos blancos. Most of these pueblos blancos […]

Last year I was very lucky to get a table at El Bulli, so I never dreamt I would get another chance to go there. But Juli Soler, co-owner of the restaurant, made this dream possible again. I felt absolutely thrilled as there is a waiting list of two years!! Of course, this was also […]

I very much love mojitos. But do you know what I like more? A mojito with a Spanish twist!! Next time you are in the mood for a mojito, try to make your own from scratch, and use the secret ingredient: Cava, sparkling wine from Spain. Here is a recipe by Lourdes Castro that I modified. […]

This is so cool, I really wish we had it here in Spain, it would be perfect right now! All of these flavours sound incredible: Ala Port, Cherry Merlot, Chocolate Cabernet, Peach White Zinfandel, Red Raspberry Chardonnay, Royal White Riesling! […]
There is nothing better than a very, very cold glass of Sangria during vacation. Here is one of my favourite sangria recipes for you to try. Recipe for Sangria (Makes one pitcher) Ingredients – Orange Juice – Fresh Strawberries – Raspberries – A Fruity Wine (like your favourite Tempra Tantrum!) – Lemon – Sugar – Powdered […]
Lately, I have been craving chocolate like crazy. Chocolate is one of my passions, so I thought that I’d pair it with my other passion, wine. For my little experiment, I chose a spectrum of chocolate ranging from dark to white (My absolute favourite is a very, very dark chocolate). I tasted each chocolate with […]

This delicious potato omelette is one of Spain’s staple tapas. You will find it in every tapas bar and, if you’re lucky, at your friend’s house. As you know, I’m not the most talented cook, but I’ve found […]
During this time of the year, people start leaving for vacation and Madrid starts to get a little bit empty. That doesn’t mean that there is nothing to do in the city. If you are planning to visit Madrid this summer, there are a lot of cultural and interesting activities for you to do, including […]
Last weekend I traveled to Javea, a cute coastal town near Valencia, for a friend’s wedding. This region is very well known for their paella (a mixed rice dish prepared mainly with seafood), so of course, I couldn’t leave without having some. I went to a restaurant called La Perla de Javea, and enjoyed a […]
Last weekend I was invited to a very special tasting for Santa Teresa Rum at a very unique location, 50 meters above the streets of Madrid! It was awesome!! We sat on a table that hung from a crane above Paseo de la Castellana, Madrid’s main boulevard, and the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home of the Real […]
Tapas Fantasticas 2009 was great. There were a lot of young people hanging around, drinking wine, eating tapas and listening to flamenco music. I love and always look forward to coming to events that bring young people and wine together, and help promote the idea that wine isn’t just for snobs.
Every time I come to El Puerto de Santa María (the harbor) I always feel like I’m traveling back in time. Having grown up here, I have so many memories of this place. It’s still the same small and quiet seaside town, with its own rhythm, and a characteristic smell of sherry, dampness and old […]
Last night I went with my friends to have dinner at a very special place to celebrate the bottling of Tempra Tantrum, and share with them my happiness of fulfilling this dream. We chose to go to Arola Gastro, where top chef Sergi Arola, after some years working in la Broche, shows all his creativity and heart. […]
El Bulli has been awarded, several times, the title of the “Best Restaurant in the world” by The Restaurant Magazine. After my visit, I really understood why. Ferran Adria is not only a Chef, but an alchemist!! Here is a video of Chef Adria making spheric olives (they are so good!), with food writer Mark Bittman and Chef Jose Andrés, a disciple of Adria who has successufully opened several restaurants in USA.
While in London, I was so excited to visit the Borough Market, a very nice market where you can buy delicious food to take home to cook, or just walk around and taste many of the products made in each stall. I love cheese, so one of my favourite moments was watching a raclette being made in a stall, ready to take away.
As strange as it may be, one of Madrid’s greatest restaurants and one of my favourites, is in Bernabéu Stadium. That’s right, the soccer stadium. El Asador de la Esquina is pure Madrid, with typical Castilla dishes and amazing grilled meats and fish. I was there the other day and loved the view of the […]
